Stainless Steel has a high resistance to oxidization and corrosion although there are different grades to choose from so it's vital to select according to application. Maraging Steel is an iron alloy, free from carbon and possessing superior strength while retaining malleability. It can be finely polished and machined with minimal distortion. Plus it's easily nitrided and resists corrosion and cracks.
Nickel alloys are ideal for harsh, high-temperature environments. Alloys containing more than 15% Cr provide oxidation and carburization resistance at temperatures exceeding 760°C. Nickel Chromium base alloys are used where heat resistance and/or corrosion resistance is required. Where conditions are less demanding Nickel is replaced by Iron to decrease costs.
Titanium is immune to any environmental atmosphere and recognized for its strength-to-weight ratio. Commercially pure grades possess ultimate tensile strengths equal to steel alloys but are 45% lighter. Titanium is 60% heavier than Aluminium but more than twice as strong. In addition it can be combined with elements such as Iron, Aluminium, Vanadium and Molybdenum to produce strong yet lightweight alloys.
